Sometimes you don’t want a big to-do. Sometimes you just want a low-key hang at the local pub or brewery. You might even go to those things alone, but it would be cool if someone you knew popped in.
That’s what drop-in events are for. You advertise, with a little advance notice, something fun you’re going to do anyway, and you invite specific people to join. No pressure. You’re going regardless; it’d just be nice if a friend showed up. In the app, drop-in events have no minimum threshold of attendees. They’re effectively events with a threshold of 1: you’re going; anyone else is optional.
For instance: this Friday I’m going to Lamplighter brewery after work. It would be awesome if some of my friends popped in. They probably won’t, but the least I can do is let them know. So I created the drop-in event, and I’ll shoot a text to the group. I don’t want or need RSVPs. I really don’t want “no’s” with excuses. I’ll just be going, and maybe (probably not) someone else joins. That’s the whole idea.
The card above is what that looks like in the app: a time, a place, and a “drop-in event” label so it’s clear this isn’t a formal invite. Show up if you’re around; if not, no worries.
